Ashley
Gritton
“Do
your best – no matter what the task” is Ashley’s Gritton’s motto
for his work and life. This motto has served him well and Ashley
has moved from production operator to maintenance foreman for YH
America, Inc., an automotive fluid conveying and adhesive manufacturer
in Versailles, Ky.
YH
America, manufactures air conditioning, power steering
and windshield sealant and adhesive products to Japanese and Domestic
automotive manufacturers. They have been a member of AIK since 1989
and employ over 370 full time employees.
Manufacturing
provides “fantastic opportunities” according to Ashley. For him,
the best opportunity is a paid education to college. Ashley is enrolled
in an industrial maintenance program at Kentucky Community &
Technical College System and attends courses two nights a week.
He says “the skills I have are for today’s work but my education
will provide the knowledge for tomorrow’s technology”.
On
the job, Ashley’s main objective is to reduce downtime. By working
a timeline or action plan for major projects and keeping the right
parts on-hand, he is able to continually improve the preventive
maintenance system of the facility. On making decisions, Ashley
says “he makes each one as if it were his company”. He believes
this type of attitude and having a willingness to be used where
you are needed in the company are two important qualities for success
and opportunity in manufacturing.
During
his six years in manufacturing Ashley has seen his company grow.
The facility has expanded in size and is almost completely automated.
Although jobs have not grown as rapidly as the facility’s output,
Ashley says “plenty of good people are still needed”.
Ashley
is a Kentucky native, born and raised in Anderson County. He and
his wife now live in Frankfort with their two-year-old son. While
his favorite thing to do is spending time with his family, he also
enjoys working on cars and being active in his local church.
