Jeff Prewitt

What started out as a normal day of painting has turned into a great manufacturing career for Jeff Prewitt. While Jeff was doing some contract painting at Aisin Automotive in London, Ky., one of the plant supervisors encouraged him to put in an employment application. Now five years later, Jeff Prewitt works in die maintenance and loves his job.

Aisin Automotive has been an AIK member since 2002.

Die maintenance is a skilled trade, for which Jeff says he provided the basic knowledge and self-motivation; the company provided the rest of the training. Now he welds, hand-finishes, assembles and disassembles dies for his company, which manufactures auto parts for several major automotive manufacturers. Troubleshooting is his favorite part of the job. “When a die cast comes in and the die is broken, I get motivated,” he says. However, die maintenance is not without challenges. “It is difficult when the die doesn’t fit or if there are flashing issues” he stated.

Even with challenges, Jeff urges people to “believe in themselves and jump into it” (referring to manufacturing jobs). He is not sure why there are misconceptions about manufacturing, because his experience has been great. “It is like a family here” he says. It is no wonder that he is known around the plant as a “morale booster.”

Jeff and his wife live in Corbin, Ky., the town where he was born and raised. They share their home with their English Bulldog “Bugsy”. In his free time, Jeff enjoys fishing at Cumberland River, known for its large trout.
